⚠️ Private beta — not yet generally available. This extension is currently in a closed beta with a small group of clinics and isn't open for wider install just yet. If you're reading this outside the beta, hang tight. We will notify you the moment it's ready for all Ritten customers.
What is Ritten Scribe for Telehealth?
Running telehealth visits but still typing up notes afterward?
The new Ritten Scribe brings the AI Scribe you already know into your telehealth sessions. It's a Chrome extension that captures both your microphone and your client's audio from the browser tab, then transcribes the session and auto-fills your encounter forms with suggested answers — the same AI Scribe experience you use for in-person visits, now built specifically for virtual care.
How it works:
Open your telehealth session in a Chrome tab and open the extension.
Share your microphone access.
Pick the appointment you're about to conduct.
Start recording, then run your session as normal.
Stop recording and choose which forms to generate answers for.
Get an email when your answers are ready to review in Ritten.
The Ritten Scribe extension uses the same technology as our existing AI Scribe feature.
To learn more about AI Scribe, check out our AI Scribe product guide here.
Before you begin
AI Scribe must be enabled for both your Ritten environment and your user account. Only users with an AI Scribe seat at a Scribe-enabled clinic can use the extension. If you don't see it working, ask your Platform Admin to confirm your AI Scribe access.
Chrome (or another Chromium browser) is required. The extension does not work on Safari, Firefox, or other browsers.
Your session must run in a browser tab. The extension can't capture audio from the Zoom or Teams desktop apps — you must join your telehealth session from Chrome instead. That said, any browser-based session can be captured via the extension, regardless of telehealth medium.
Installing and signing in
Click here to download the extension from the Chrome Web Store by pressing Add to Chrome to install the extension.
When downloaded, it's recommended that you pin the extension to your toolbar so it's always available via Chrome's Extension menu.
Once pinned to the toolbar, click on the Ritten logo to open the extension and press Log in to log into your Ritten account.
Note: At this point, Ritten may open in a new window to sign in. The window should close once you're signed in.
If you belong to more than one Ritten environment, you may be prompted to select the clinic you're working in. If the clinic name at the top of your extension does not match the environment you would like to join sessions for, press the Switcher button at the top of the extension to switch environments.
Note: Your selection will persist until you switch it — you can change Ritten environments anytime from within the extension.
Recording a telehealth session
Open your telehealth session in a Chrome tab using your telehealth provider (Google Meet, Zoom in-browser, Doxy.me, Teams, etc.).
Open the extension and you will see all eligible scheduled events around the current time. Press Start by the session you would like to begin recording for.
Note: By pressing Start, if the associated event does not already have an encounter, one will be created.
Note: Before you open the extension, be sure that you are in the browser tab where the telehealth session is. Ritten Scribe will only capture the audio of the active tab.
Note: To be eligible for Ritten Scribe, the session must start within one hour of the current time. Only events that are associated with individual encounters are eligible (group sessions are not currently supported with Scribe).
On first use, a new Chrome tab will open, where you will be asked to Allow microphone access.
Once Allow Microphone is pressed, Chrome will prompt you to select the microphone (to capture your audio). Be sure to press Allow while visiting this site so you won't be prompted again and your audio will be shared.
At this point, you should now be recording, as indicated by the red dot in the extension icon. Open the extension and use the audio level indicators to confirm both your mic and the tab audio are coming through.
You can now conduct your telehealth session. Note that the extension will continue recording even when closed.
Note: The extension will capture your audio even if you mute yourself in your telehealth platform. To stop capturing your audio, you can pause recording at any time.
When the session ends, open the extension and press End Recording.
You'll then be prompted to select which forms you would like to complete using AI Scribe and the session audio. Selected forms that don't exist in the encounter will be created. The forms you can select here include all forms that either:
At this point, the standard Scribe process is kicked off. You can view Scribe's progress at any time in the Completed Sessions section of the extension. Press View to open the actual encounter in Ritten and review the Scribe answers.
As with standard AI Scribe sessions, AI-generated answers can be reviewed (accepted or rejected) in bulk or on a field-by-field basis.
One-time setup only!
Once set up - covered in Steps 3-5 above - Ritten Scribe should always save your preferred microphone and you should no longer need to share access.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers does the extension support?
Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers (Microsoft Edge, Arc, Opera, etc.). It's not available on Safari or Firefox.
Can I use it with the Zoom or Teams desktop apps?
No. The extension captures audio from a browser tab, so your telehealth session needs to be running in Chrome. To use with Zoom or Teams, we recommend you use their available browser-based versions instead of the desktop apps
Will it still capture the session if I'm wearing headphones?
Yes! Because the extension captures your client's audio directly from the browser tab, it records the full session even when you're listening through headphones.
Do I need AI Scribe to use this?
Yes. AI Scribe must be enabled for both your clinic and your user account. Your Platform Admin can enable it for you from User Management > Users.
Do I need to schedule the appointment ahead of time?
Yes. You can only start a recording by selecting an existing scheduled, individual appointment, which keeps your transcript and forms attached to the right encounter.
Am I responsible for getting client consent to record?
Yes. Obtaining and documenting consent according to your clinic's policies and applicable regulations must be handled and managed by your clinic.
Can I use it for group sessions?
No. Neither the extension nor our standard AI Scribe currently supports group encounters.
The extension is showing an error that it can't access my microphone. How can I reshare?
If you are blocked from recording your microphone audio, please right-click on the extension in your toolbar and press Manage Extension.
Scroll down and press Site Settings. Here, you can change the Microphone setting to Allow. If you need to change your microphone, you can press Reset permissions and the system should re-prompt you to select your microphone when you start your next session.
How do I update my extension to get the latest version?
Since this is an installed extension, it may not always automatically update. If you need to update, simply navigate to the Chrome Web Store listing here and press Update.
How long are recordings kept?
As with standard AI Scribe sessions, recordings are automatically deleted 72 hours after the session ends.
Are recordings used to train the AI?
No. Your organization's data stays private, and recordings aren't used to train the model or shared across encounters.
Can I access the session recording or transcript?
Not currently, no. To protect client privacy, session recordings and transcripts aren't yet available to you or your staff.
